He saw a man in a dark suit sitting alone at a table in the corner and a small boy, about five, wiping tables. "You guys wanna drink?" the young boy assked. Racetrack nodded. "Kay." The boy ran through a door under the stairs and shouted something. He then went back to wiping the tbles. After a moment the door under the stairs opened and out came a girl wearing a long black skirt and a white shirt. She was about seventeen and had short dark brown hair. Jack was surprised at the color of her eyes. They were a clear blue-grey and seemed to have so much depth. "Sorry ta make ya wait. Usually don't get customers til latea. What can I get ya?" Blink and Mush ordered beer and Race, trying to act sophisticated, ordered a Manhatten. She poured their drinks and turned to Jack. "And you?" "I don't know. What's good?" Jack wondered. "I make an excellent gin and tonic." "I'll give dat a try." She poured it. "I've never seen you guys in here before," she said. "We used ta go ta Irving Hall all the time tilit closed," Race told her. "I'm Racetrack, this is Jack, and those two idiots are Mush and Blink." Blink and Mush were to enggrossed in their armwrestle to realize that Race had insulted them. "It's nice to meet ya. If you'll excuse me I have ta attend ta some things downstairs before the evening rush. If ya need anything just tell Squeak." She smiled at them and went through the door under the stairs. Race turned to Jack who was gazing dreamily at the door. "Well, looks like we found someone ta replace Sarah," he said. Jack came out of his daze. "Why do ya say dat everytime we meet a girl? Every goil is a replacement for Sarah. I don't need a replacement. I'm fine without a girlfriend." "Whatever Jack. That's why your eye is twitchin' right? Cuz yer fine. Ya like her though ?" "Does it matter?" "Course it does." "Why?" "It just does. So do ya? I'm just curious." Jack hesitated. Race's curiousityusually ended up with an embarrassing rumor being spread. Once Race was curious about whether or not Jack thought Race was a good looking guy. Long story short the whole Lodging house thought Jack was gay. They eventually dropped it, but Jack still catches Swifty checking him out from time to time. "Yeah I like her." "What to ya so long ta answer?" "I was just wonderin' if my answer would make me seem gay." "Would ya drop it. Nobody tinks dat no more." "Sure Race." Jack turned back to his drink as a tomboy with a long blond ponytail strolled into the bar and immediately caught Blink's attention.
